Learning Disability Care Home Group Sold In Somerset

Oaklea Care, Yeovil, Somerset

Oaklea Care, an established and highly regarded group of learning disability care homes has been sold in super quick time by specialist healthcare business agents DC Care.

The group, all located in the Yeovil area of Somerset comprises 4 properties, providing care and accommodation to 15 residents with mild to moderate learning difficulties. The business became available when the proprietors, Mr and Mrs Jackson decided it was time to retire having started the first home some 25 years ago. Mr and Mrs Jackson were pleased that the business was sold to an ethical purchaser who aims to ensure continuity for the residents and is committed to investing further in the homes.

Thanking DC Care for their efforts, Mr Jackson commented, "We are very pleased that DC Care found this particular purchaser for our business as he (The Purchaser) made it very clear from the start that for him it was very important to ensure the residents and staff at Oaklea continued to live and work in the houses. He has also described how his company will invest in substantial improvements going forward. As you know it was very important for us to find a way of enabling residents to continue living in their homes and to ensure the staff team enjoyed continued employment and we fully believe that this purchaser will provide the perfect opportunity for these things to happen. In addition you were able to secure a favourable price for the business and this is of course a bonus for us both as we look to enjoy our retirement."

The opportunity came to the market towards the end of April 2017 and after much hard work from all parties, the deal was completed on 11th August, just 3 months after the initial offer was formally accepted. Commenting on the sale Andy Sandel, Southern Business Appraiser for DC Care said "The sale of Oaklea Care shows that there is still a strong demand for this type of business. Obviously there is a desire from some sides for homes with lower dependency residents to move towards the Supported Living model of care, and although this may well happen with Oaklea we are confident that the buyer we found for this business will have the residents’ interests as their priority."

"I would like to thank the team at DC Care Specialist Healthcare Business Agents for their support in the sale process of a couple of our facilities. There is always someone available to take a call and discuss any issue along the way, I have enjoyed and appreciated the frank and honest approach to the valuation and sale. It is a pleasure to deal with people that work in the way that they do."
